Ben Kweller rocked my pants off.
Ben Kweller performs at the Granada Theater.
Cary took me to see Ben Kweller for my B-Day last month (THANK YOU CARY!!!). I have never been able to get out to see him and was so glad to finally get the chance. The show happened to be at the greatness that is The Granada Theater in Dallas. I love that place! They are very camera friendly and the staff is always great. Some artists don't want cameras by anyone that isn't a pro, but big thanks to John at the Granada, we sorted that out and I was able to shoot. I also talked to Bill (their house photographer) and had his blessing. Thanks to him also. You can see his great shots HERE.
As for the actual show, Jones Street Station opened up and were pretty good. I wasn't very familiar with them but was pleasantly surprised by the range of this band. I have no idea how to describe their style, but it has some folk, some rock maybe a little punk at times. But they make it all work together beautifully. They come from Brooklyn and I recommend checking them out.
As for Ben Kweller, he was just as advertised. What can you say about him that hasn't been said before? His music has so much good energy that you can't help but want to dance (and I am NOT a dancer). Some of my shots were blurry from me bobbing my head to the song instead of concentrating on holding that camera still. The crowd there looked like I expected on a weekend night on Greenville, but something about the was different. Usually there are people wandering in off of the street that look nothing like the target demographic of the band playing. The difference this night is that they weren't yelling "Play some Skynyrd!" They were dancing and singing too! Well done Ben Kweller! You've united the the different classes that wander the Greenville streets.
